The game will not have paid Gear Packs or a Season Pass - all additional content for the game will either be free (for example, future multiplayer maps), purchaseable direct from the game's store (with no RNG determining what you get), or earnable in the game's "Tour of Duty" progression system. It is, of course, enhanced for Xbox One X, with 4K Ultra HD and HDR 10. It also offers 2-3 player local co-op and 2-5 player online co-op.

Gears 5 is Play Anywhere, available on Xbox One and PC, featuring cross-platform multiplayer for those two platforms. Specifically that means Double XP for Multiplayer, Double Character XP for Horde and Escape, and doubled speed for Supply Drop progression. Boost is a new purchaseable item for the series - entirely optional - which gives the buyer accelerated progression for a set time.

The Ultimate Edition of Gears 5, which is the version included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, includes a Halo Reach Character Pack and 30 days of Boost, as well as the four days of early access before full release.
